On April 14th ,2021, Xun Yuan, professor from East China Normal University, gave an academic report titled “theory and practice of university governance” to faculties and students of our school in Room 1817, Sanjiang Building. 
Professor Xun analyzed four different aspects: policy objective of education governance, tracing of governance and university governance, practical cases of university governance, and conceptual mechanism of school and department governance. Professor Xun got into depth from theoretical aspect to analyze different connotations of “governance” as concepts and theories. Introducing “governance” from civil society, the appearance of guild system has not only changed the structure of economy and politics in a city, but also provided direct political basis for the formation of teachers’ body corporate, leading to the changes of cultural and educational system. Professor Xun also explained historical logic of university governance, and discussed the pattern of university governance in developed countries from practical aspects, using specific cases from both UCLA and ECNU. He proposed that as a university’s basis, self-governance of school and faculty is the key; the governance of school and faculty relies on value setting of university constitution and governance; the aim of school and faculty governance lies in resource allocation of development of academic.
After the lecture, Professor Xun discussed with us about the existing problems in university governance, and he patiently answered all questions with his abundant expertise and unique professional insight.
