Over the summer, the Normal Education Center hosted several workshops to enhance college students’ abilities as future educators.
The Normal Education Center held a mobilization meeting on July 17 to prepare university students to teach. The gathering was attended by each faculty of teaching's deans, department leaders, instructors (both inside and outside the school), and representatives of regular students. Jiangsu University's Vice President of the School of Teacher Education, Cui Kang, presided over the meeting. Cui Kang gave an overview of our typical college students’ lives and the summer training program. Then, speakers from different fields of education gave each other talks. The training arrangements of the school and Xiang Wang's guiding experience in teaching skills training in recent years were discussed and shared by Hongwei Wang of the School of Marxism and others. Teachers addressed students’ concerns individually during the Q&A session. They urged them to make the most of their free time over the summer by putting their teaching abilities to the test, supporting one another, and developing as a community.
Following the meeting, the Teacher Education Center invited Ming Xu, who has served as president of Zhenjiang Teacher Development College, as well as a particular grade teacher in Jiangsu Province and a senior teacher in the province, to offer personalized advice. Students were given summer homework by Ming Xu, who gave them background on the education industry's social dynamics, an analysis of the meaning of basic teaching skills, and a list of relationships teachers need to manage well. Xu suggested that regular students take advantage of the summer by planning weekly training sessions, creating a schedule, and beginning with the four exercises to ensure consistent training with feedback and guidance. Classic classroom recordings and lesson evaluations were two areas that Teacher Xu stressed at length.
During the remaining summer break, the colleges and the Teacher Education Center collaborate to direct the skill training of regular students. Subjects covered in the seven online courses offered by the Teacher Education Center include instructional expertise, language skills, comprehensive quality, PPT creation, etc.
Being “Student-centred and Output-oriented” has always been a guiding principle at Jiangsu University. Using a two-tiered tutorial system to hone the fundamental abilities of high school pupils can help elevate their future careers as educators. Students will be assisted in locating suitable employment opportunities, maintaining a work ethic, and improving their employability through summer guidance.
