On October 16-17, 2024, the School of Teacher Education at Jiangsu University conducted the “2024 Teachers’ Lecture Competition and Teaching Innovation Competition” in Room 206 of the Teacher Training Skills Center, Main Building A. Twenty young educators from the entire college participated in the tournament. Jun Feng, Haiyan Mao, and Haiyan Zhou, the undergraduate teaching supervisors of the school; Longying Zhou, the undergraduate teaching supervisor of the college; and Xu Feng, the first prize recipient of the Jiangsu Teaching Innovation Competition, acted as judges. The competition was presided over by Vice Dean Cui Kang.

The theme of this competition is “Promoting Teaching Innovation and Cultivating First-class Talents,” guided by the “Four New” construction concept. It emphasizes the in-depth advancement of teaching reform in higher education, prioritizing teaching innovation, fulfilling the essential objective of moral education, and further enhancing the integrated development of education and teaching. The competition comprises two components: instructional design and classroom teaching, with assessment contributing 20% and 80%, respectively.

Embracing a “student-oriented” teaching philosophy, the participating educators incorporated value formation, knowledge dissemination, and skill development, effectively showcasing their teaching objectives, content, design, and methodologies tailored to the distinct characteristics of various courses. The competition assessed the pedagogical proficiency of college instructors while offering a platform for novice educators to demonstrate their teaching methodologies and enhance their instructional skills. This facilitated communication and mutual learning among participants, fostering a robust teaching and research environment.

Adhering to the competition, Jun Feng, the undergraduate teaching supervisor at the institution, expressed the desire for the School of Teacher Education at Jiangsu University to leverage this event as a catalyst for assimilating advanced pedagogical concepts and innovative methodologies. He urged the promotion of the educator’s ethos, the courageous embrace of the mission of moral cultivation, and the encouragement of greater teacher engagement in educational reform and innovation. He anticipated that the participating educators would persist in exploration and innovation, enhance teaching quality, and endeavor to nurture more exceptional talents with innovative spirit and practical skills.

The School of Teacher Education has introduced a novel approach to the teaching competition for educators. Utilizing the framework of “early-stage presentation, mid-stage guidance, and late-stage teaching and research,” it enhances education through competition, assists novice educators in thoroughly advancing educational reforms, significantly elevates the quality of talent development, and fosters the high-quality progression of higher education.
