From September 23th-24th, 2023, Professor Jinyan Huang, director of the Evidence-based Research Center for Education Assessment of Jiangsu University, led an inter-university research team (Jiangsu University, Hunan University, Beijing Union University, South-Central University for Nationalities, and Shanghai Dianji University) to host a symposium at The First High-end Forum on Foreign Language Education in Beijing Foreign Studies University. The symposium’s topic was “Chinese College Students’ Feedback Literacy in English Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing: Implications for English as a Foreign Language.” As the first high-end forum of foreign language education, this symposium aimed to actively integrate into the construction of China’s independent knowledge system, promote the development of foreign language education disciplines in colleges and universities and promote the creation of a new discipline of foreign language education.
Professor Huang hosted the symposium. The initial focus was placed on the significance of feedback literacy within the context of English teaching and learning. A concise overview of English feedback literacy was provided after that. Subsequently, the reporters from the opposing team undertook five reports about feedback literacy, examining it through the lenses of English language acquisition in the domains of hearing, speaking, reading, and writing. Towards the conclusion of the discourse, Professor Huang posed many thought-provoking inquiries, engaging in thorough deliberation with the attending educators and students, thereby presenting novel possibilities for English instruction.
The symposium has greatly bolstered Jiangsu University’s prominence in foreign language education and teaching within China, exemplifying the institution’s proactive engagement in cutting-edge research on foreign language education. Furthermore, the team members exhibit a cross-school and interdisciplinary composition, aligning with the research center’s strategic objective of fostering a collaborative innovation mechanism for organized scientific research. Jiangsu University has forged enhanced collaborative ties with other academic institutions, laying a robust groundwork for prospective combined research endeavors and collaborative initiatives.
